Eternal Spring

We don’t know what we have until it’s gone, or until we leave it behind. The latter one very much applies to me. I have been out of El Salvador for about seven years now…Wow, they went by fast! Spain, UK, Canada… yeah, it sounds frantic… and it actually has been. Every time I come back home to rest for a bit, it feels as if my life has been suddenly paused. And I can take everything in with much more amazement! I enjoy how it is Spring/Summer for about half the year, how the flowers are always in bloom and the greens are always green, and how the sun comes out everyday even if it’s only for ten minutes. Sometimes, it feels good to push the pause button in our lives, and realize how lucky we truly are.

I agree, every girl should have at least one LBD, but I also think every girl should have at least one LWD. A Little White Dress is a must have, especially when living in a sunny and warm country. What I love about this particular one is that it can take me from day to night with a simple change of shoes! The simplicity of this shift dress is what makes it so wearable, and the sequins really add up to its chic style. I think you already know how I feel about sequins, but just in case you don’t… I go crazy over them! I find it really hard to resist them. Yes, I admit it…Sometimes I think I have a mini Sharpay Evans inside me, and this is her talking.

Coral Midi Skirt

Talking about midi skirts, on my last post, reminded me of this neoprene one that I got not too long ago from AsosMidi skirts were all over the AW14 runways, from Céline to Prada to Rochas… I find that the real key to wearing this type of skirts is combining them with a pretty pair of slenderizing high heels, let them be boots, pumps or sandals… they just add that certain je-ne-sais-quoi that ties it all together.

She was all alone, facing the vastness. She gazed and squinted, but the immensity was greater than what her eyes could capture. The harder she tried, the harder it was to draw the borderlines. She closed her eyes and gave in to the quiet rush. The crisp cool water was dancing shyly around her ankles. The billowy breeze kept on brushing against her bare skin and hair. She could taste the saltiness clinging to her lips. When she opened her eyes, the sky was a dome of gold, and the beach was the crystal reflection of it. The gold melted into blood orange, and then into pink. It was surreal. It was breathtaking. It was Paradise, she thought.

Happy 2014!

I barely made it home for the holidays. But I was lucky. I flew right before Toronto’s airport shut down due to the icy weather… Pheww! And I’ve been feeling that relief since I landed… especially when I skim through the international weather pages of my local newspaper. I’m not exaggerating when I say I can almost feel my hands freezing while holding it.

In the meantime, I’m just happy to be in El Salvador: my home! There’s something to this little piece of land that just makes me feel good. The city, the mountains, the beach, the tropical life…, it all puts a permanent smile on my face. Speaking of the beach…I spent New Year lazing by the pool sipping out of a coconut. Cliché, right? But that’s how it really was! Here are a few shots from my time at La Barra de Santiago, in the coast of the Pacific Ocean. I hope you all had an amazing time just like I did! Happy 2014!

Cozy Holiday Wishes

On holidays, and especially during winter, I tend to have lazy days. Days when I can barely command my body to crawl out of bed… not to mention to actually dress up. These are the days when all I want to do is throw a cozy, shapeless jumper on and snug in the couch with a big mug of hot chocolate. Of course, I have a pair of warm woolly socks that I reserve for these sluggish occasions, which are perfect to walk about barefoot.

After the first round of Christmas partying, I have pretty much succumbed to laziness… hence my belated Christmas wishes. But you know what they say: Better later than never. So I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Smiles are acts of joy, kindness, and hope. They are a very powerful force that moves us. When someone smiles, we’re inevitably drawn to smile back. There is something special about smiling that can lift up spirits even amidst the hardest of circumstances.

Chic Simplicity

I consider myself to have a very simple style. Far from an over-the-top complication, I aim for a chic simplicity, not only in my outfits, but also in my conversations and writings. Since so much has been said about the Isabel Marant for H&M Collection already, I really don’t think I should add anymore blah, blah to the incomprehensible noise. So in my search for simplicity, there’s really only one thing I want to say about this post: Enjoy!

The Reds of Christmas

December is here and with Black Friday mania finally out of our systems, we can really focus on Christmas, my favourite time of the year! It is the season that brings the greens of the sturdy pines, the whites of the glinting lights, and the reds of the ho-ho-hoes. Like the shocking, happy red of my Kate Spade coat. The story of this coat is somewhat amusing, but I prefer to keep it on the low… It is one of those stories that I rather tell face to face and in the confidence of close friendship. However, I can say this much, it came to me as a result of my job, and of having a pretty cool boss. It was one of those little perks of working in fashion. I came to the office one morning to find two neatly folded coats lying on the top of my spotless desk. And on top of them, a post-it that read: “I think these will look Great on you. xx”. It was not Christmas, but it surely felt like it!
