A while back, I read a book about style and how to simplify the task of dressing every morning. Reading it gave me many useful insights, one of which I want to share with you all: Find what looks good on you and create a pattern out of it.
I'm very reluctant when it comes to subjecting one's style to restrictive molds, but I actually realized that there are certain silhouettes and colors that I instinctively gravitate to. More than clinging to a boring uniform, it is about discovering what suits you best, and turn that into your staple. In my case, I find that high waist, straight leg trousers elongate my figure and accentuate my waist. I have a...
Hi lovely ones! Nothing can beat the sexy sophistication of a classic white shirt. Pairing it with a full skirt and with the right accessories, will always make up for an elegant, feminine look. I love the boldness of this belt along with the dashes of red across this outfit. As a final touch, I parted my hair in half and tied it into a sleek, low ponytail.
Hi, everyone! A few days ago I stumbled upon these chunky heel, track sole sandals. They struck me as sturdy, yet feminine with a hot vibe. Not only do they elevate you to a whole new height, but they are comfortable as can be. I’ve tried them out with a few different outfits and they are a total game changer! They instantly add a touch of cool to any ensemble, which is really a trait that I look for when I am accessory shopping. So here is one of the outfits that I put together around the sandals. What do you think of it?!
Going back to my childhood’s country club always brings wistful memories back. It was where I learned how to swim, play tennis, and eat fries topped with cheese. While I was there recently, I decided to take a few pictures for old times sake.
Frankly, when I shop, I am always unintentionally drawn towards the blacks; so I really have to push myself into trying other colours and prints. However, this dress came to be an exception. The minute I saw it, I loved it and wanted to try it on. And it happened that it not only looked good on the hanger but it looked even better when worn. The watered floral print, and the dress’ cut make it a beautiful piece that will easily look great on any body.
I am not much of a trousers girl, but the minute I spotted this pair, I knew I had to have them. They were lurking on the hanger behind a couple of white blouses. Crisp, clean. “It is the last pair”, pointed out one of the shop girls as she saw me coveting them. They were a size too small. But ladies, when we really want something, we don’t mind sweating a little bit for it. I had to squeeze myself in. Yes they were a size too small, but those oh so straight legs that make mine look lengthier, and that high waist that makes mine look daintier… I had to have them! Besides, no one else can tell; and I am not one to complain.
If there’s one thing better than buying good clothes &/or accessories, it would be buying them on sale! Sales are tricky, you have to rummage through mountain-like piles of crap before you can actually find a piece worth your while. But sometimes you get lucky and it makes you forget all the tediousness as if by magic. I’m bringing this up because both this black dress and the heels were found this way. When I spotted them, I couldn’t believe that nobody had bought them before me! Anyway, I hope you like this outfit as much as I do, and don’t give up on those annoying sale piles. Sometimes treasure lies underneath it all.
When I wear this denim dress, I remember of that one time when one of my Canadian friends referring to my outfit, bluntly remarked: “you look so motherly.” She made me laugh. She also got me thinking about how different can perceptions be depending on the country. Back in El Salvador, whenever I wear the dress, I get showered with compliments (not of the “you look so motherly” type, but more of the “it is so beautiful, where did you get it from?” type.) However, it is precisely because of my friend’s comment that it thrills me to wear the dress even more. I like breaking molds, and fashion is such a fantastic way of doing it. I encourage you to try it. Yes, sometimes it can make you feel a bit out of place (believe me I know), but it is exactly that what makes you stand out and shine.
